Week 8 - Post Prod wrap up

Round two of intensives are all finished up! My group and i did the end touch ups of our Kung Fu Panda trailer, which came out pretty cool! Like i said in my previous blogs, post production on film and tv seems like it would a lot of fun, and from what i've heard a pretty accessible industry.

In the trailer itself, my roles were doing the main narrator vocal dubs, with a few sound effect voices for the various characters. We did most of that in the first session, with the following session being mainly Foley. That was especially interesting as it really opened my eyes up to how much you can make noises sound like different sources, with different recording techniques and processing. The loud bang we used throughout the clip to intro characters was just somebody whacking the side of the bin, with a bit of eq and reverb, sounds like something completely different!

The next Session was recording a bit more Foley, and creating the intro music track, which two of my group members Callum and Guarav did a good job on. Keeping the sound oriental but adding a bit more groove as opposed to the original. We ended up finishing the trailer off on Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas.

The Final Session this last week was mixing everything. In which Tristan our lecturer, showed us the standard industry template for mixing film and tv, which was sweet to learn about. Post Production mixing is very different too mixing music, as you are not so much focusing on tone but on the direction of the sound, or if the sound should trail off as someone moves in the shot etc. It's a fun process and it's really cool to watch it all come together and start to sound like a proper video! Looking forward to doing more Post Production in the future.

Some things i would of done differently, would of been to come in for an extra mixing session, as the end product isn't as polished as we could of made it. Some better time management would of achieved this.
