Week 6 - King Cig
Week 6 is here and we finally released our debut EP Lung Butter, under the name King Cig. This release has been a work in progress since i started my degree over a year ago now. The amount of revisions and different mixes, re recordings i've done on all this stuff time and time again, is enough to drive a man insane. Alas we finally got there in the end, and the whole process has been an irreplaceable learning experience, on all things from recording in the studio, to mixing and mastering.
Like i said in one of my earlier blogs, the band consists of myself and 3 of my best mates from Perth. We've all played in bands around the Perth scene, and now we are all in Melbourne and ready to see what this amazing music city has to offer to up and coming bands!
The EP consists of 5 Tracks, all short fast paced Punk songs, with a strong influence from stoner rock. Most of it was recorded at my Uni, SAE Melbourne. Using pretty much all the different studios, whichever was available and suited what i was recording for that day. The drums were done in the Large Audient and the Neve, guitars and vocals in the Tascam, and Bass i mainly just Di'ed at home, with a few live distorted parallels which i recorded in one of the studios at Uni. After all the Raws were recorded i did my own mix on the tracks, and then flew off to Perth to do a bit more mixing and mastering with one of my good friends Cameron Murphy at his studio Opaque. I learnt so much about the mastering process and a few mixing tricks to take home and do on my own mixes, which have been invaluable.
After all of the time and effort thats been put into the release, it feels good to be able to release something that i'm super proud of. So without further ado, i'm going to link our most single worthy song, Trash, which is about being the trashy deadbeats that we are.
