Remix Plan

After a couple of weeks of mucking about trying to get stems off some friends i knew in bands and having it all fall through, i ended up hitting up Tom Stevenson, who we recorded for our Production unit last Trimester, and asked if i could remix one of his songs. He was all for it, which suited me because i had all his Stems already on my computer.

Tom Stevenson hasn't released any of these tracks yet but i would say they have a very Jack white feel to them. Very old school Rock n Roll inspired. I ended up choosing a track called Step Back, because it has a very nice rhythm acoustic guitar going through the whole song, that even when we recorded the track i thought that it had a nice cruising hip hop feel to it.

I plan on warping the acoustic guitar riff to be the main rhythm for the song. And use the vocal line as a sample throughout the song.

Being a massive rookie when it comes to the world of Electronic music, i plan to stick to an instrumental style Hip Hop track. I've listened to a lot of Dj Shadow and The Avalanches since my younger Skating days, so i would say i'm going for a similar sound to those guys. Very sample influenced.

As for communication with Tom, honestly haven't had a great deal other then just asking if he's cool with it, and that i'd show him when i'm done. I've learnt a great deal in the short amount of time that we've been learning about Electronic Music, and i'm super glad to have gained that knowledge. But at the end of the day i'm no DJ and i'm deep in uncharted waters on this assignment. Having a lot of fun doing it, but it's not something i would plan on releasing or anything and Tom is aware of that.
