Blog Two - Week 6 Using Data

Big Brother is watching.

This week i'm going to focus on the topic i thought was most interesting, Data and the many different ways it can be used. The type of Data that i'm talking about is information that nearly all the websites we visit stores, to cater to what you like. All the websites we visit to shop, stream music or movies, play games, store data from each individual person, and the things they usually buy or the type of shows they usually watch. Companies refer to this information when deciding what new product to release, or what demographic would be interested in said product.

It's most noticeable on Social Media. Since i've started studying Audio Engineering, i've researched alot of different audio related things, and now my Facebook page is constantly bombarded with audio related sale items. Plugins, microphones and interfaces. It's an excellent and powerful sales tool, and if it's used right, you can get your product directly to people who would be interested in it.

One of the more interesting points made in the article was when Netflix got in a bidding war on the Hit Tv Drama "House of Cards" , they trusted their data about the viewing habits of their subscribers, and knew that the show would be a hit. Data in any industry is vital in success, even if you choose to ignore data, the knowledge is important.

The craziest thing about Data is that i hardly noticed it's existence at all until it was brought to my attention, and more and more i notice it in programs, and websites.
